Matt Harkins - President and CEO

Matt has been actively involved in construction and real estate for 19 years.  Throughout high school and college, Matt grew through the ranks of a property management and maintenance business which was responsible for a $15,000,000 portfolio of real estate investment properties in the greater Boston area.  Starting as a laborer the summer before his first year of high school, Matt has worked and got his hands dirty in almost every phase of home construction and renovation.  “Actually having done a lot of the work and gotten good at it, provides me with many advantages as a home builder.  For instance it’s easy to quickly spot when something’s not going well, or is costing too much.” 

After graduating from Ithaca College in 1995, Matt worked in sales and management positions for Linkage, Inc., a leading organizational development consulting company.
After five rewarding years in corporate America, Matt decided to focus on his passion for real estate and building, and founded Benchmark Builders, Inc. in 2001.  Since then he has:

• Built a custom 5,600 sq. ft. luxury log cabin - Telluride, Colorado
• Completed a gut rehab and condominium conversion
  of a 4,400 sq. ft. (3) family building - Allston, MA.
• Performed six condominium gut rehab’s - throughout the greater Boston area.
• Built a 5,200 sq. ft. luxury home in Great Brook Estates - Carlisle, MA
• Completed a gut rehab of a 3,600 sq. ft. home, and the construction
  of a 1,700 sq. ft. carriage house - Concord, MA
• Completed the construction of a 5,800 sq. ft. luxury home - Concord, MA.
• Performed a gut rehab. and added an addition, and new detached garage
  to a 3,300 sq. ft. luxury home on West Newton Hill, MA         
• Built a 4,200 sq. ft. high-end Tudor influenced home -West Newton Hill, MA
• Constructed a luxury 4,300 sq. ft. Gambrel – West Newton Hill, MA
• Re-habbed and re-structured a 5,000 sq. ft. 200 year old post and beam home- Concord, MA
• Raised a two family house 10 ft. off the ground – added a new story beneath it, and performed a major renovation to the existing building – Seabrook, NH               
• Matt is currently working on a substantial renovation of an
  1890 Queen Anne Victorian – Newton, MA
